The Tim Tebow Foundation sponsors Night to Shine which is an unforgettable prom night experience. It is for people with special needs ages 14 and older. The first Night to Shine occurred in 2015. The parties are now held across all 50 of the United States and are hosted by 725 benevolent churches. International parties are also held in 56 countries on 6 continents. The honored guests are greeted by people cheering for them the minute they arrive, and during their walk down the red carpet as they are crowned King or Queen. During their arrival, they know they are celebrated with love.
My daughter, Lauren, and I began volunteering in 2017 when two friends who are Intervention Specialists said they were having an event at their church. Lauren and I signed up to be buddies, along with two other friends. It was held in their church with the guests dancing in the church gymnasium, and many church volunteers helping to make the night special for the kings and queens of the night.
There are many ways to volunteer. We enjoy being buddies with the special honored guests. The other ways to volunteer include being part of the escort team, paparazzi, limo rides, crafts, beauty, caregiver team, coat check team, crown and tiara team, decorating team, karaoke team, medical team, parking lot team, registration team, and shoe shine team. As you can see, a lot of help is needed for this event.
Night to Shine always takes place the Friday before Valentine’s Day. If you think you would like to help in a future event, Google the places it is held in your area. Pick a location that works for you and ask to be on their mailing list. Our favorite location starts sending out emails to sign up in October, and a background check is required of all buddies. Please consider helping with the event that will give you beautiful lasting memories, knowing that you were part of an event that made their Night Shine with God’s love.
