“This book has been years in the making with people telling me throughout my
career I should write a book.  From individual student stories, to practical ways to make
connections before teaching content, this book can serve as a valuable resource to all
those people who wonder how to best interact with this population.  The stories run the
gamut of funny, uplifting, and sometimes, heart wrenching.  It is written with humor,
authenticity and love.  In this world of diversity and inclusion, it is an important story to
tell.”    Deb Laneville, Author
